The Morning Rhythm: How to Fuel Your Barn Chores and Your Coffee Habit
For those of us who start our day before the rest of the world wakes up—whether you’re heading out to the barn to care for your horses or simply tackling a demanding morning schedule—coffee isn’t a luxury; it’s an essential part of the workflow. We know that when your time is precious, every minute you spend on your morning ritual needs to be efficient and rewarding.
Many of you have asked about my own daily routine. I’ve had to refine how I balance a high-quality manual brew with the fast-paced demands of running Redeemare Coffee. By day, I’m building our roastery, and I spend much of my free time supporting the fantastic team at Bearfoot Ranch through donations and volunteering. To keep my mornings sharp, I’ve optimized my process using a manual burr grinder that holds exactly 30 grams at a time—a method that has become my favorite way to start the day.
The 30g Constraint
Working with a manual burr grinder is a tactile, rewarding way to start the day. However, that 30g capacity limit can be a bottleneck when you need enough coffee to power through a busy morning, or when you’re brewing for more than just yourself.
I’ve turned this “limitation” into a Morning SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) that keeps the coffee flowing without stalling the barn chores.
The Routine: My 3-Step Strategy
Don’t weigh beans when your mind is still waking up. I portion my coffee into small, stackable containers before I head to bed. If I need a 60g double-batch for the French Press, the two containers are already waiting for me.
I treat my brewing process like a tactical operation. I grind my first 30g, set the bloom, and while the coffee works its magic, I grind the second batch. It turns a “waiting game” into a multi-tasking win.
Everything has a designated spot. My scale, kettle, and grinder are arranged to minimize movement. Efficiency in the kitchen means I spend less time standing around and more time at the barn.

Why It Matters
You might wonder why a coffee roaster is sharing workflow hacks. The truth is: Time is the greatest gift we can give back to our horses.
When you optimize your morning, you aren’t just making better coffee—you’re buying back the minutes you need to advocate for a rescue, provide extra care, or simply enjoy a quiet moment with your animals. Every bag of Redeemare Coffee you brew supports that mission directly, and I want to make sure you have the energy to keep doing the hard, noble work of horse rescue.
